Services: Lifesharing

Lifesharing offers an alternative to traditional community living arrangements and is provided when one or two individuals live in a family setting, but not with biological relatives or legal guardians.  These individuals receive more than 30 hours per week of direct supports.  Lifesharing involves working with families who are interested in opening their homes and lives to an individual with a developmental disability.  The opportunity provides individuals with a place they can call home and the love of a family.  Lifesharing enhances and enriches the lives of individuals and offers them the chance to live with a family who will support their desires and needs for an everyday life.

How many individuals can be served by one Lifesharing Provide?
One or two individuals may be served at a time.

How are providers matched with individuals?
The needs and preferences of the provider, as well as the individuals, will always be considered in placement.  Interviews will be arranged for initial face-to-face meetings through the Lifesharing Specialist at Mainstay Life Services.

How is the Lifesharing Provider compensated?
Providers receive a generous tax-free stipend.

What happens if the Lifesharing Provider becomes ill or requires hospitalization?
The circle of friends and family that is chosen by the Lifesharing Provider, and approved by the Lifesharing Specialist, help to provide care in these circumstances.
